A Stranger Here Below is a historical fiction mystery set in the early 1800s in Pennsylvania, featuring a young deputy trying to solve the mystery of a murder while also trying to figure out why the old judge in town committed suicide. The deceased did not know each other, but are the cases related? This was a slow developing story but held my interest throughout, due to the excellent character development and the complexity of the two converging mysteries.

In Dear Edward,  a twelve-year old boy is the sole survivor of a plane crash that kills 182 passengers, including his parents and older brother. The story alternates between his life afterwards, in which he lives with his Aunt & Uncle as he struggles with his grief, and the hours before the crash itself. The reader gets to know some of the other passengers on the doomed flight as well. While I loved this book, it is a heart-breaking coming-of-age story with an unforgettable character in Edward.
